Chronic Pain Management

A mind and body approach to healing chronic pain

Calm image for clients looking for help with chronic pain

I am an experienced GP with a special interest in pain management and additional training in psychotherapy and mind-body medicine. Based in Chester and within easy reach of North Wales and the North-West of England, I can provide a holistic, biopsychosocial assessment for individuals with chronic pain and treatment with Pain Reprocessing Therapy.

Pain Reprocessing Therapy is a new, evidence-based and medication-free talking therapy that's suitable for the majority of people with chronic non-cancer pain. You will learn about the Mind-Body connection and the important role of the brain and nervous system in creating and maintaining physical symptoms such as pain and fatigue.

Treatment with Pain Reprocessing Therapy can be helpful for adults and adolescents with chronic pain due to the following conditions:

  • Chronic neck or back pain

  • Tension headaches or migraines

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Irritable bowel syndrome

  • Chronic abdominal pain

  • Chronic pelvic pain

  • Chronic facial pain

  • Complex Regional Pain Syndrome

  • Painful bladder syndrome

  • Chronic primary pain of unknown cause

Using a combination of pain neuroscience education plus simple cognitive, behavioural and mindfulness techniques, it is possible to learn how to work WITH your nervous system in order to break free from the vicious cycle of chronic pain and distress. I can teach you how to retrain your brain to turn off the pain alarm, offering hope for recovery to all those who have previously been told that there is no cure for their chronic pain and "you must learn to live with it" or even "it's all in your head".

I believe this to be the way forward in the treatment of chronic pain. This is not about learning to live with pain, this is about learning how to understand and resolve your pain at its root cause.
